NIMH – NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE
The ‘tried & tested’ NiMH batteries maintain their position in the hobbyist battery industry due to their greatest assets – safety & reliability. NiMH batteries are easier to manufacture using more environmentally materials than Lithium based batteries. This results in a cost-effective rechargeable battery for use in many applications. Whereas Lithium based batteries require great care to avoid damaging their cells, NiMH batteries are relatively safe from explosive failures and will continue performing up to 1,000 charge cycles. Where NiMH batteries lack compared to Lithium based batteries is their size, weight and low discharge rate. NiMH batteries are large, heavy and better suited to slow, steady power delivery as opposed to rapid bursts of energy.
